Odysseus Chaoticus

“Odysseus Chaoticus” is a fantastic cabaret show, based on the travels of Odysseus (Ulysses), King of Ithaca. Parts of the Mythological Odyssey are intertwined into a story of an eccentric Italian family: a romantic-dreamer husband, his uptight dominating-loving wife, a needy old Papa and their newly born noisy baby all packed like sardines in their small home. The dreamy husband escapes his mundane routine to an imaginative journey inspired by the “Odyssey”.
The three actors/clowns play a multitude of characters, altering them in an almost dizzying rhythm, while playing musical instruments, dancing and singing.

Thus, they tell the story of the Great Greek hero, King Odysseus, who struggles to find his way home in a wondrously cruel world of Gods, witches, monsters and humans. Physical Theater, clowning, acting, dance and live music are all packed into a deliberately “Low-Tech” concept, creating a sweeping rhythmic succession of scenes.
“Odysseus Chaoticus” is unique as a full length clown show that succeeds in telling a story without language, in a hilarious and poetic way.

Ish Theatre

Ish Theatre was formed in 2008 following the success of the show “Odysseus Chaoticus” which was created through collaboration between the actors Noam Rubinstein and Fyodor Makarov (ex-classmates at the School of Visual Theater, Jerusalem), the actress Yolana Zimmerman (Rubinstein’s partner at Clown Doctors organization), and the director Maria Nemirovsky.
This group gathered through a mutual desire for practicing in the realm of physical theatre, clowning and mime, founding their work on mythological themes and archetypical characters.
Their belief is that, the theatre, to regain its strength and influence, especially in our own turbulent times, often needs to go back and further away from the harshness of the surrounding reality towards the poetic, the comic and the surreal.

“Amazing balance between exact and tight directing and the brilliant improvisational skills of the three clowns, each one of them bursting with talent…”
NRG Ma’ariv, Israel

“This piece is visually compelling, innovative, surprising, intimate, vulnerable, riotous, bawdy, eloquent and well executed to boot!”
Plank Magazine, Canada
“For sheer vitality and talent there is nothing to beat the Israeli production of 'Odysseus Chaoticus'. Featuring the amazing trio of brilliant actors, the play staged with limited props is a tour de force of physical theatre... The play is the essence of drama…”
