Nela Antonović (The MIMART Theatre, Serbia)

We had a great pleasure of presenting our project LIMES at the INFANT Festival. It was the first project carried out through a dialogue with citizens, Community Art. The presentation of our project WAKE UP, which includes Serbia, England and Holland, as the EU grantees for 2010-12,  has also encouraged other artists from our country to apply for the European ‘Culture 2007-13’ project.
On the same day we had an opportunity to see two quality performances, between which I would like to single out the one by the ARMA theatre from Israel, because of its unusually provocative character. As an active practitioner of the street and ritual theatre for many years, I offer you my congratulations for this spectacle, which, by its topic area, codification of the new, Artaudian dream-like imagination, and Buberian appreciation of the Other, overcomes all barriers and rules, introduces a new field of fantasy where each moment of performance inspires a feeling of excitement, wonder in the interpretation of the unknown directed at some ‘distance intended for us only’. The fascination that a spectator can feel while experiencing absurdly opposing emotions, from sorrow to laughter, from fear to contemplation, from the unexpected to the expected contact in both physical and mental sense, stays deeply engraved in the memory of those who are ready for an adventure, and an analysis of the conscious and the subconscious singular acts, signals, signs and finally the rituals of the actors. I attended a cosmic ritual theatre, as none I had seen before for sure. Thank you.
