HEROES

Winner of the international choreography competition Burgos-New York and included in the five best dance performances of 2008 by Israeli critics.
‘Heroes’ is an original and stimulating performance that addresses our need for intimacy and communication in an alienated world. The need to be liked, to be loved, and having to cope with reality become a source of inspiration for surprising movement. Accompanied by David Bowie’s songs, two men play a game whose rules are set from one moment to the next and in which they endeavor to free themselves from old habits and escape into fantasy.

YOSSI BERG & ODED GRAF

Choreographers Yossi Berg and Oded Graf started collaborating in 2005, and have since built a reputation for work that is supremely physical, sometimes provocative, and has been termed poignant and witty. Having performed with world-renowned troupes including Batsheva Dance Company and DV8 Physical Theatre, they mix their masterful physicality with their dynamic research of theater, text, and voice; responding to the social and political realities of contemporary life. Yossi and Oded’s singular brand of artistry has launched them to the forefront of Israel’s vibrant dance scene and placed them prominently on the world stage. Besides performing regularly at the Suzanne Dellal Centre, they have toured their works to prestigious festivals and theaters including Montpellier Danse in France, the American Dance Festival in the US, Madrid En Danza in Spain, Stockholm's Kultur Festival in Sweden, the Place Theater in London, La MaMa in New York City, White Bird Dance in Portland, the SIDance in South Korea, and many more.
Their choreography has been commissioned and included in the repertoire of prominent troupes including Batsheva Ensemble in Israel, Introdans in Holland, Donlon Dance Company, StaatsTheater Kassel in Germany, Tanzkompagnie Theater St. Gallen in Switzerland, Company E in the US, Aura Dance Company in Lithuania, Polish Dance Theater in Poland, Belgrade Drama Theater in Serbia, and TND Company in Spain. Yossi and Oded’s compellingchoreography has garnered them numerous honors at homeand abroad. They have received special grants from the Ballet Master Albert Gaubier's Foundation in Denmark, the SchustermanVisiting Artist Program in the U.S., the Israel Lottery Council for the Arts, the Tel Aviv Municipality, and the Teva Foundation for Excellence in Arts. “Fascinating, exciting and surprising evening, which takes the art of dance one step forward…the original movement breaks out of charismatic performers…With exceptional talent Berg and Graf create unique characters that are very easy to identify with... against all odds the men manage to experience love and fragments of truth in the mechanical, alienated world in which they exist...an amazing example for unlimited nuances and variety of expressions that create emotional tension as if it was a written play…”
Michal Ba 'adani, Achbar Ha’ir

“One of the most distinctive choreographers...consistent choreography with lots of good movements, performed beautifully by the two talented dancers.”
